What Do You Think??
Conclusion...
In conclusion, the Lumbee Indians are a tribe that has fighting for what they believe in for years and years. They have dedicated so much for their rights and benefits as a fully Federal recognized tribe. Through several years of constant denial of bills, they never gave up. Once the Lumbee Act was finally passed, a door seemed to open up for this tribe. However, the door has led them to the same path to this day. They have still not been given their benefits and rights. The Federal government feels the Lumbee Indians ancestor's are to broad for them to be FULLY recognized. "Why?" is the first question that pops in my head, as well as many other heads I'm sure. Any Lumbee Indian can give a detailed description of their history and where they came from, so where is the confusion? Change must occur because this tribe is struggling and need as much support as they can get. Becoming federally recognized could open so many positive financial paths, which could be extremely beneficial. My entire family has yet to see any reprecussions for the hardships they have faced in their lives. They have been taunted, teased, looked down upon, struggled with money, and been at all time lows, so if they were given what they deserved, those memories would disappear. The Lumbee Indians are a tribe of love, courage, dedication and inspiration. They deserve what should have been given to them years and years ago. I hope the Federal government open their eyes and realize what is right, until then, the Lumbee Indians will keep on fighting.
